Ever since the Brexit debate started, I have seen a number of memes and links on my Facebook feed with some of the most bizarre claims about the European Union.
While some of the posts from the leave camp come from your regular little Englander bigot, a surprising number of the posts and comments in favour of Brexit come from an unlikely crowd in the form of Conspiracy Theorists or Truthers, as they like to be known.
You may have come across these kinds of people before, they believe the government are spraying us with chemtrails, that vaccinating your children is bad, every terrorist atrocity is either staged or some kind of false flag government operation and it’s all being planned by a shadowy group of super-rich bankers, collectively known as the New World Order (NWO) or the Illuminati.
These conspiracy theories often cite Jewish owned banks as the main culprits, even though there are plenty of non-Jewish owned banks. Not all conspiracy theorists agree on everything, there are a wide range of conspiracies ranging from daft suggestions the moon landings were faked over to downright offensive as well as absurd notions that the Holocaust didn’t happen and the Sandy Hook school shooting was faked by the US government.
Parents of the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre were even harassed by conspiracy theorists thanks in part to James Fetzer, author of a book entitled ‘Nobody Died at Sandy Hook: It Was a FEMA Drill to Promote Gun Control‘ and InfoWars’ Alex Jones, who promoted these crazy theories.
The Sandy Hook victims hit back suing them for defamation. Alex Jones withdrew his allegations blaming them on a temporary psychosis, although you won’t get much argument from me that Jones is nuts.
These oddballs tend not to exercise their right to vote, since they believe the entire system is corrupt and believe all politicians have their strings pulled by the NWO. They also claim they own and control the media. Not in the case with Brexit though, they voted for Britain to leave, urging our country to take back its sovereignty and to give the faceless bureaucrats of the illuminati controlled European Union a jolly good old slap in the face.
This seems a most unlikely alliance with the Tory right, Brexit Party, Rupert Murdoch and other right-wing media outlets. In fact, these people will often tell you the Main Stream Media (MSM) is controlled by the NWO, yet here they are singing the tune of the billionaire owned right-wing media.
It is no surprise the Tory right and Rupert Murdoch want out of the EU, since they do not like employment protection legislation, human rights, environmental laws, imposed on the UK by the EU, even though the reality of the situation is only around 13% of British laws are from the EU and most of them simply to enable the free trade area to work. In particular, they hate the EU’s forthcoming tax-avoidance directive.
Australian born, naturalised American, Rupert Murdoch, wants the UK out of the European Union.
Yet the cries of give back Britain her sovereignty are not just coming from the likes of Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Iain Duncan-Smith, as well as right-wing pernicious rags like the Sun and Daily Express newspapers.
The conspiraloon brigade who believe in chemtrails, fake moon landings, you know the type, you’ve probably had one on your Facebook page telling you to “do your research” when you disagree with them that not vaccinating your kids is a stupid irresponsible thing to do.
Apparently, as part of a plan to depopulate the planet, the shadowy elite are promoting vaccines, arch NWO villain Bill Gates has donated billions of dollars for vaccination programmes in Africa.
Maybe I’m missing something, but I should have thought immunising the population against potentially fatal diseases would be a pretty dumb way to reduce the population of the planet. However, it is engraved on some slabs of stone in Georgia that humanity should maintained with a population of 500,000 and apparently the NWO are going about this with chemtrails, vaccinations and putting fluoride in our toothpaste.
The Georgia Guide Stones, sometimes known as the American Stonehenge, claim humanity is to be maintained at a population of half a billions. Currently the Earth’s human population is around seven billion.
One of the most well-known proponents of anti-EU conspiracies is former BBC sports presenter and Conspiracy Theorist, David Icke, who preaches the world is run by shape shifting lizards and that the Moon is in fact a giant spaceship. He actually has a huge following and those who disagree with Icke’s crazy views are often labelled by the Conspiracy Theorists as sheeple, and yes told to “do their research”.
According to David Icke the NWO is manipulating Europe to create a centralised super-state to destroy all nations turning them into administrative regions dictated to by the Reptilian Overlords.

While this is laughable, you’d be amazed at the number of people posting these crazy theories on social media. Every day I read the EU is part of some international conspiracy for the world to be ruled by the iilluminati and somehow believe that the UK will become a shining light of democracy in Europe if we leave. Ignoring the fact that our own voting system could put a Prime Minister in power with a third of the popular vote, the House of Lords is not elected at all, it is appointed, including 92 hereditary peers who sit there by birth-right, not to mention 26 unelected Church of England bishops. This is contrary to the European Parliament which is democratically elected using Proportional Representation.
We actually have 26 lawmakers in the UK with the power to impact laws of my land solely because they believe in an invisible sky fairy/ punisher.
Official EU voting records show that the British government has voted ‘No’ to laws passed at EU level on 56 occasions, abstained 70 times, and voted ‘Yes’ 2,466 times since 1999.
In other words, UK ministers were on the “winning side” 95% of the time, abstained 3% of the time, and were on the losing side 2%. Bloody Europe putting in laws that we voted for.
So, the leave campaign is a strange coalition of right-wing politicians who want to privatise the NHS and scrap employment rights and avoid paying taxes, little Englanders who think that immigration is the cause of all the nation’s woes and conspiracy theorists who believe in insane theories such as chemtrails, faked moon landings, false flags, vaccines are bad, lizard people, etc.,
The European project has undoubtedly promoted peace and prosperity over the last 70 years. I love the right to freedom to work and travel in EU member states without a visa. I like the fact as an EU resident I’m entitled to free healthcare in any EU member state and do not need to purchase private health insurance every time I visit the continent.
The EU can only be reformed for Britain’s interests if we have a seat at the table as the third largest economy in Europe. BoJo’s deal is not much better than no deal and it’s a distinct possibility we could still end up with no deal by the end of 2020 if that goon is elected.
Thanks to Brexit we’ve seen our economy slow down, out currency plummet and jobs have already been lost. It’s cost our economy almost £70 billion … and we haven’t even left yet.
So, whose side are you on? Right-wingers who want to privatise the NHS and avoid paying taxes or conspiracy theorists, who think the EU is part of some dark sinister plot to take over the world by an elite cabal of unnamed international Jewish bankers (and possibly lizard people)? I want to remain.
